The Raconteurs

I went to The Raconteurs show last night at the Tabernacle. They rawked the fucking caspah! By an odd twist of fate, I had a ticket in the upper middle balcony. I typically prefer to be on the floor, but no dice… kinda odd because I’d always thought that Tabernacle shows were general admission. However, despite some slight apprehension that I may fall down the stairs when returning to my seat with a drink, it was a pretty kick ass view of the show. Add to that the fact that I didn’t get stepped on or sweated all over (except by my own sweat, which is fine), and I’d have to say that it was pretty damned sweet.

My ears still hurt a little today, but man oh man, it was worth it. If you get the chance to see The Raconteurs live, do it.

10,000 Days…

The new T O O L album was *officially* released yesterday. I, of course, am rocking the hell out of it. My current track of obsession is Jambi, and these lyrics just keep getting to me…

But I would wish it all, away
If I thought I’d lose you just one day

The devil and his has me down
In love with the dark side I’ve found

Dabblin’ all the way down
Up to my neck soon to drown

But you changed that all for me
Lifted me up, turned me round

So I, I would wish this all away

Oh yeah, so I moved to Va. Highlands this past weekend… lots to update everyone on, but I am in the middle of something at work so I can’t right this moment. Soon!

Foo Fighters : Sweet Grammy Action

From the Foo Fighters email newsletter:

Foo Fighters “In Your Honor” has garnered 5 Nominations for this years Grammy Awards (Held Wed. February 8th on CBS)!

first of all – thanks to all the fans who have supported the record and come out to the shows year in and year out. The Foos wouldn’t have these nominations if you didn’t buy the album, so thank you.

The Foos have been nominated for the following awards:

  Virginia Moon (feat. Norah Jones)
  In Your Honor
  Best Of You
  Best Of You
  In Your Honor

Kick ass! I own the album, and, honestly, I haven’t really give it enough airplay. In all fairness, several of my fave bands came out with new, badass albums around the same time, so I’ve been hitting some tracks more than others. I know “In Your Honor” will get its fair chance. I can’t resist a creation of Dave Grohl’s.
**UPDATE: Now that I am rocking the album, I realize that I have listened to disk 1 enough to recognize the tracks, but it definitely needs a revival. Plus, disk 2 needs its fair chance!!

Until later… rock on.

Intro to Grace, Live at Sin-é album

This song is about “not feeling so bad about your own mortality when you have true love.”
         –Jeff Buckley

For context/clarity/kicks, you can see the lyrics to Grace here. I’m pretty sure you can find the track on iTunes or some similar musical outlet.

I found a good article while perusing the web to verify that I heard Mr. Buckley’s introduction clearly and transcribed it accurately. Here’s an excerpt from that article:

“…what Buckley is best remembered for… [his] lack of inhibition. He sings with every emotion he has, turning all of his energy into a seduction of the individual listener.”

Grr. That’s precisely what drew me into his music, and it’s what keeps me coming back time and again… (Are you getting the hint, people? Do whatever it takes– get your hands on some Jeff Buckley tunes and just rock the hell out. Call it a “shared experience.” Humor me.)

I (heart) Jeff Buckley…

…more every time I listen to Grace after having not heard the album in some period of time (months, perhaps?). So lovely, so timely. Sir Buckley (yes, he’s a Knight– in my (lauren’s) world) left us all too soon, but he lives on with each spin of his records (so to speak…).

So, here’s to one of my top 2 all-time favorite vocalists (the other being MJK)… Grace is hitting home yet again… and always in a slightly different light. There were so many quotes I could have pulled from any song on Grace, but I’ve always had a weak spot for this track. I’ll leave you with a little Buckley, but I highly advise that you seek out some real tunes. He’s the man.

When i’m broken down and hungry for your love with no way to feed it
Where are you tonight, child you know how much i need it
Too young to hold on and too old to just break free and run

Sometimes a man gets carried away, when he feels like he should be having his fun
And much too blind to see the damage he’s done
Sometimes a man must awake to find that really, he has no-one

So i’ll wait for you… and i’ll burn
Will I ever see your sweet return
Oh will I ever learn

Oh lover, you should’ve come over
‘Cause it’s not too late

NIN Show Last Night

I saw NIN (again!) at Phillips Arena last night. What an amazing show! The band has such high energy, and they maintained that energy the whole time. I had floor tickets, which really is the only way to experience live tunes. The only thing that was a bit off was the crowd– I was rockin’ out the whole damned time, as I always do at a good show… and especially when I’m experiencing Nine Inch Nails. However, most of the crowd appeared to be on some form of mid-grade tranquilizers. Didn’t get me wrong, mind you, but a show is a shared experience… and it sucks when the energy of those around you is just not there. So I kept my focus on the stage, the music, and the band. Their energy fueled me, and it felt as if mine did the same for them. Rock on.

ooh trent wants me!

listening to the perfect drug… trent wants me! no, for real. seriously! i mean, all you have to see is what i heard. take a look at what he said to me:
you make me hard, when i’m all soft inside
i see the truth, when i’m all stupid eyed
the arrow goes straight through my heart
without you everything just falls apart

my blood wants to say hello to you
my feelings want to get inside of you
my soul is so afraid to realize
every little word is a lack of me

and i want you
and i want you
and i want you
and i want you
